Pulse radiolysis of aqueous solutions of 6-aminophenalenone. II. Intermediate products of the reactions of the dye with OH radicals
Description
The oxidation of 6-aminophenalenone by OH radicals was studied using pulse radiolysis. The formation of two oxidized forms of the dye was detected - a molecular cation-radical and an OH adduct. Absorption bands with maxima at 420 (ξmax = 1500 ± 200 m2/mole) and 670 nm (ξmax = 66 ± 22 m2/mole) correspond to the former and bands with maxima at 340 (ξmax = 580 ± 100 m2/mole) and 390 nm corresponds to the latter. It was found that the disappearance of the two products occurs mainly due to recombination reactions, but the cation-radical reaction with water is also possible (k = 100 ± 20 liter/mole.sec), the product of which is an OH adduct of the dye
