Origin of non-metal inclusions in rope steels
Description
The results and experience are described collected during the investigation of possible sources of exogenous impurities and their importance and share of the total content of inclusions in crude steel is assessed. Steels for hoist ropes were investigated by labelling with non-active lanthanum oxide and subsequent neutron activation. It was found that approximately 40% of the total content of oxide impurities originate from the furnace slag. The share of other investigated sources did not exceed 5% for any single case. Occasionally, the technique of simultaneous labelling with 141Ce in the form of ceric oxide or with non-active samarium and cerium oxides was used. (author)
