Radioimmunoscintigraphy with Tc-99m-labelled CEA antibodies

On 19 June 1997, a workshop was held in Cologne for definition of the state of the art of CEA-radioimmunoscintigraphy. The conclusion to be drawn is that CEA-radioimmunoscintiscanning continues to be a useful diagnostic tool complementing the diagnostic imaging techniques. It offers advantages particularly for detection of recidivations in cases where findings of other techniques are not sufficiently distinct. The method is less recommendable for detection of mestastatic spread to the liver and lungs or other distant metastases, but for these cases, there are other available methods such as bone scintiscanning, ultrasonic scanning, or spiral CT. Am 19.6.1997 fand in Koeln ein Workshop zur Standortbestimmung der CEA-Immunszintigraphie statt. Zusammenfassend wurde festgestellt, dass die CEA-Immunszintigraphie nach wie vor eine sinnvolle Ergaenzung der bildgebenden Diagnostik ist. Insbesondere stellt die Rezidivdiagnostik bei sonst unklarer Befundkonstellation eine wichtige Indikation dar. Der Nachweis von Leber-, Lungen- und anderen Fernmetastasen ist problematisch, jedoch stehen hier leistungsfaehigere Verfahren wie Skelettszintigraphie, Ultraschall und Spiral-CT zur Verfuegung.
