Radioimmunoscintigraphy with Tc-99m-labelled CEA antibodies

On 19 June 1997, a workshop was held in Cologne for definition of the state of the art of CEA-radioimmunoscintigraphy. The conclusion to be drawn is that CEA-radioimmunoscintiscanning continues to be a useful diagnostic tool complementing the diagnostic imaging techniques. It offers advantages particularly for detection of recidivations in cases where findings of other techniques are not sufficiently distinct. The method is less recommendable for detection of mestastatic spread to the liver and lungs or other distant metastases, but for these cases, there are other available methods such as bone scintiscanning, ultrasonic scanning, or spiral CT.
