An evaluation of the clinical usefulness of amifostine (YM-08310), radioprotective agent

Radioprotective effect of Amifostine (YM-08310) was evaluated in patients with abdominal and pelvic tumor by the double-blind method and the following results were obtained. 1. YM-group showed a tendency of significant superiority over PL-group in the usefulness. 2. No significant difference in the over-all judgement on improvement of the disease in the course of therapy and the incidence of adverse-reactions was observed between YM-group and PL-group. 3. The incidence of diarrhea in YM-group was less than that in PL-group. However, no significant difference was observed. 4. Judging from the results of the effect on tumor size, YM had no radioprotective effect on tumor tissue. (author)
