Description

The removal was verified in pilot plant operation of long-term biotoxic radionuclides from the coolant in the spent fuel storage pool using sorption on granulated synthetic mordenite. The experiments were carried out with model and real coolants. A total of more than 16,000 volumes of the bed or real coolant was treated removing more than 95% of the initially present 134Cs and 137Cs, and 75% 110mAg. The tests showed that mechanical and chemical stability (i.e., leaching of Na and Si) of the granulated sorbent during pilot plant experiments is satisfactory for recycling the coolant.
