Investigation of massive air ingress into HTR type reactors
Description
Measurements to determine the rates of corrosion depending on the temperature, the speed of air flow and the oxygen partial pressure were carried out on floor reflector graphite with the aid of theoretically determined air mass flows. Convection mass flows of 0.25, 0.5 and 0.7 kg/sec were simulated here. The measured rates of reaction show differences from the measurements of other authors for temperatures ≥ 800deg C. A possible N2 inertiarisation of the primary cell, the use of prestressed vessels for the primary circuit containment, granulate infeed as an intervention measure and the ceramic coating for the fuel elements can be considered as possible measures to protect against the ingress of large quantities of air into the HTR primary circuit. Abstract (German)
Mit Hilfe theoretisch ermittelter Luftmassenstroeme wurden Messungen zur Betimmung von Korrosionsraten in Abhaengigkeit von der Temperatur, der Stroemungsgeschwindigkeit der Luft sowie des Sauerstoffpartialdruckes an Bodenreflektorgraphit durchgefuehrt. Hierbei wurden die Konvektionsmassenstroeme 0,25; 0,5 und 0,7 kg/s simuliert. Die gemessenen Reaktionsraten zeigen fuer Temperaturen ≥ 800deg C Abweichungen gegenueber Messungen anderer Autoren. Als moegliche Massnahmen gegen den Einbruch grosser Luftmengen in den HTR-Primaerkreis kommen eine eventuelle N2-Inertisierung der Primaerzelle, die Verwendung vorgespannter Behaelter fuer den Primaerkreiseinschluss, eine Granulateinspeisung als Interventionsmassnahme und die keramische Beschichtung der Brennelemente in Betracht.
