Description

A simple calculation of the stopping power of a metal is given for the case of magnetic monopoles whose velocity v is small compared with the Fermi velocity. The principal result is that the dominant contribution to the stopping power is the formation of low-energy electron-hole pairs. The stopping power is found to be proportional to v and for Al with v = 10-3c, -dE/dx = 0.3 GeV/cm
