Thermal decomposition of tetrahydrates of holmium and erbium nitrates

  • 1. Universitet Druzhby Narodov, Moscow (USSR). Kafedra Neorganicheskoj Khimii

Description

Decomposition of holmium and erbium nitrate tetrahydrates by heat was studied. Derivatograms were made for a nitrogen atmosphere at temperatures from 20 to 900degC. The products of thermal decomposition were studied by chemical, optical, infrared spectroscopy, and x-ray analysis methods. Interplanar distances and the corresponding densities were studied. Anhydrous holmium and erbium nitrates were not detected in thermal decomposition of the crystal hydrates. Holmium and erbium oxides formed at 600 and 535degC, respectively
