Renormalizable symmetry model of weak interactions

Creators

Description

A renormalizable model of weak interactions is presented. The leptons and the SU(3) quarks are classified in an SU(4) × SU(2) symmetry scheme in which the quantum numbers are charge, baryon number, lepton number, and weakness - a quantum number that replaces the usual second lepton number. The coupling of a sextet of spinless bosons to the leptons and hadrons gives a theory of weak interactions that has universality, the correct selection rules, renormalizability, conserved vector current, and V-A in the local limit. Elastic eνμ scattering is predicted. The intermediate scalar boson leads to μ e and ee pairs in the conventional high-energy neutrino experiments but no μμ pairs are predicted. Some neutral-current effects are expected and these are consistent with present data.
