Description
Medico-legal procedures are defined in the EC Medical Exposure Directive (MED) as 'procedures performed for insurance or legal purposes without a medical indication'. The European Commission started a process in 2005, the revision and recast of the Basic Safety Standards, in which the definition of non-medical imaging exposure is proposed to be, 'Any deliberate exposure of humans for imaging purposes where the primary motivation for making the exposure is not related to the health and well being of the individual exposed.' Issues around this type of exposure are explored in the paper. (author)
