Description
The 1p-1h formalism taking into account the one-particle continuum is applied to strongly deformed nuclei using the adiabatic approximation. The single-particle states are generated in a deformed Woods-Saxon potential. For the nucleus 9Be the γ-absorption cross section is calculated up to the region of the giant dipole resonance. The (γ, n) cross section and the longitudinal form factor for electron scattering of the 1/2+ resonance near threshold is investigated. The role of the effective charge is discussed. Comparison is made with a simple non-adiabatic calculation. (Auth.)
