Description
Described is a multichannel ironless on-line hadron spectrometer (IHS) providing the measurement of particle time of flight and energy release in a thick scintillator. An experimental study has been made of the IHS channel that permits to identify protons, neutrons or the lightest ions, and to measure their energies in the range of several tens (several MeV for the neutrons) to 250 MeV. The energy resolution for charged particles varies from 3 to 8%, for neutrons - from 8 to 15%, with the main detector spaced at 1.5 m from a target. Modifications of IHS with different number of channels have been successfully used for investigation into the angular and energy distributions and correlations of particles produced in deeply inelastic nuclear reactions, and also into the dependence of the particle yield in these reactions on the energy and type of the incident particles, and on the target material atomic number
