X-ray magnetic circular dichroism in pulsed high magnetic fields

  • 1. Tokyo Univ., Inst. for Solid State Physics, Kashiwa, Chiba (Japan)

Description

Recent developments of experimental techniques for x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) in pulsed high magnetic fields are presented. As results of the experiments, XMCD spectra in valence fluctuating Eu in a rare-earth compound EuNi2 (Si0.18Ge0.82)2 at fields of up to 40 T are introduced. The spectra turn out to show peculiar features that cannot be understood by current theoretical models. For higher resolution experiments, combination of a wavelength-dispersive x-ray absorption spectrometer and a pulsed-high magnetic field is a promising means. Preliminary results of a high-field x-ray absorption experiment of a spin crossover complex Mn(taa) using the dispersive method are presented. (author)
