Hermiticity of the metric on vortex moduli space

Description
The slow motion of vortices in the critically coupled abelian Higgs model is studied. The metric on vortex moduli space is expressed in terms of the behaviour of the Higgs field in the neighbourhood of its zeros. The metric is found to be hermitian with respect to the natural complex structure on the moduli space. For two vortices the metric is determined up to a single unknown function of their separation, and an integral constraint on this function is obtained. (orig.)
