An influence of Al2O3/ZrO2 composites content on strength of composites to steel joints

Description
Several alumina-zirconia composites with different ZrO2 content (0 - 80 wt.%) were joined with steel (1H118N9T) using Ag72.5-Cu19.5-In5-Ti3 solder. It appeared that the joint strength increased in function of zirconia content. The FEM analysis revealed that it was caused by decreasing of internal thermal expansion mismatch stresses on the composite/steel boundary in function of zirconia content. The decrease of Young modulus and increase of strength and fracture toughness of the composites in function of zirconia content improved probably also the studied joints. (author)
