Stability studies for TJ-II

Description

The hard core winding of the four period heliac TJ-II, to be built at CIEMAT site in Madrid, is composed of a circular coil and a helical winding with separately controllable currents. This makes the TJ-II a very attractive flexible heliac with a broad range of controllable rotational transform and magnetic well. This flexibility will permit to experimentally explore regimes with stability average beta limit to Mercier modes, ranging from near zero to approx. 6% in an almost continuous manner. Furthermore, configurations with second stability regime behaviour have been found. (author). 4 refs, 4 figs, 1 tab
