Description

The technique of mathematical processing of results of measuring radiocarbon concentration at a four-channel scintillation device, is described. Some samples, the pattern and the background are measured simultaneously in one analyzing channel. This permits to considerably increase the accuracy of radiocarbon measurements by excluding instrumental errors. The whole information obtained as a result of measurements at the above device is recorded on the perforated tape which permits to carry out a thorough mathematical processing of results on the computer taking into account possible distortions. Considered are such stages of processing results of radiocarbon measurements as the formation of initial rows of data, the calculation of dispersions and instability coefficients, correlation analysis, the account of the effect of the external factors on the recording effectiveness, as well as the calculation of errors in the determination of radiocarbon concentration. The technique suggested permits to halve the error in the radiocarbon measurements as compared with the conventional technique of measuring and processing results
