Intensity of 2Fsub(5/2)-2Fsub(7/2)-luminescence of ytterbium ion in complexes with some colored organic ligands in the presence of surfactants

Description
The effect of surfactants (cationogenic, anionogenic, and non-ionogenic) on the luminescence of ytterbium complexes with some organic dyes is investigated. It is ascertained that the addition of cationo.nenic surfactants into aqueous solutions of ytterbium complexes with coloured organic ligands results in a significant (17.2-fold) increase of the intensity of ytterbium ion f-f-luminescence in a number of cases. The relationship between ligands structure and their interaction with surrounding molecules of water is considered. A conclusion is made that surfactant molecules screen ligand functional groups non-bound with ytterbium ion and, perhaps, ytterbium uion itself from the effect of water molecules and that conditions increase luminescence intensity
