Synthesis and characterization of chromium(II), manganese(II), iron(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II) and mercury(II) complexes of N, N'-diphenylhydrazine and their triphenylphosphine derivatives

Description

The reaction of anhydrous metal(II) chlorides with N,N'-diphenylhydrazine in THF afforded the isolation of polymeric compounds of the type [M(N2H2Ph2)2Cl2]n where M=CrII (1), MnII(2), FeII(3), CoII(4), NiII(5), CuII(6), ZnII(7), CdII(8), HgII(9). However, the reaction with [M(PPh3)2Cl2] resulted in the formation of N,N'-diphenylhydrazine bridged dimeric complexes of the type [M(PPh3)2 N2H2Ph2)Cl2]2 where M = CoII(4a), NiII(5a), CuII(6a), ZnII(7a), CdII(8a), HgII(9a). The mode of bonding of N,N'-diphenylhydrazine in these compounds has been confirmed on the basis of band position of N-N stretching mode. The low electrical conductivity of the complexes derived from [M(PPh3)2Cl2] confirms their covalent nature. (author). 11 refs., 1 tab
