(α,d) reaction on 27Al and 26Mg

Description

Spectra of deuterons from the 26Mg(α, d)28Al and 27Al(α29 have been obtained using a charge-division position-sensitive proportional counter. Spectra for 26Mg(α, d)28Al were taken in 5.00 steps in the laboratory from 5.00 to 50.00, and in 2.50 steps in the laboratory from 5.00 to 55.00 for 27Al(α, d)29Si. Angular distributions for many levels in 28Al were analyzed using the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA). The 9.78 MeVN7+) level is strongly excited and a strong state at 8.25 MeV is a possible 6- state, being primarily the target coupled to a (D/sub 5/2/f/sub 7/2/)6 - configuration. Angular distributions for low-lying, positive-parity levels in 29Si were analyzed. Spin assignments are made for levels at 6.42 MeV(7/2+), 6.91 MeV(3/2 - 7/2)+, 7.07 (3/2 - 7/2)+, 8.16 MeV(3/2 - 7/2)+, 8.34 MeV(7/2+), 8.76 MeV(3/2 - 7/2)+, 9.20 MeV(1/2 - 9/2)-, and 9.76 MeV(3/2 - 7/2)+. In addition, the 7/2- level at 3.62 MeV is strongly excited. A multiplet of levels formed by coupling a (f/sub 7/2/)7+2 configuration to the 5/2+ target is seen. Possible strong members are at 12.68 MeV, 13.64 MeV, and 15.52 MeV, and two weaker members are seen at 14.69 MeV and 14.78 MeV. Based on the 2J + 1 rule and shell model considerations, the strong members are probably the high spin members of the multiplet (11/2+, 15/2+, 17/2+, and 19/2+). Theoretical considerations imply that the 9/2+ level is high in excitation, and is probably either the 14.69 or 14.78 MeV level
