Training of operation staff at Indus accelerators

Description

Indus Complex has two synchrotron radiation sources, Indus-1 and Indus-2. Indus-1 is operated at 450 MeV, 100 mA that is fully operational whereas Indus-2 is 2.5 GeV, 300 mA accelerator. At present, it is being operated at 2.5 GeV, 50 mA current, which will be subsequently raised to its design current in stages. These accelerators are highly complex and to operate them safely and efficiently, well trained manpower is required. In order to accomplish this, an exhaustive training programme has been evolved. Operators' training of the first batch has been completed. This paper discusses the various subsystems of Indus facility and the contents of the training programme and its implementation in brief.
