On the possibility of cryostating accelerator superconducting magnet systems using jet pumps for liquid helium circulation

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

A possibility of using a jet pump (JP) for liquid helium circulation in cooling systems of accelerator superconducting magnets is analyzed. Operating principle of the jet pump is that compressed gas flow is speeded up in a nozzle and during further motion entraines the injected flow. Then mixed flow, escaping from a mixing chamber is expanded in a diffusor, its velocity decreases and static pressure increases. The diagram of circulation with the jet pump as well as calculated parameters of the jet pump are presented. The advantage of the jet pump is shown in comparison to mechanical pumps. Jet pumps are simple in construction, reliable in operation and permit to reduce the cost of equipment maintenance and operation
