CIDNP in the radiolysis of aqueous methanol. Indication of methoxy radical involvement

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., Ill. (USA)

Description

The unusual high-field polarization in ethylene glycol observed in the NMR spectra of irradiated aqueous methanol implies that an encounter of a hydroxymethyl radical with a radical having a higher g-factor precedes dimerization. Arguments are presented supporting identification of CH3O. as the glycol polarizing species. Participation of e-sub(aq) in the formation of CH3O. in a spur process is considered. (Auth.)
