Description
The present study demonstrates, that the detection of irradiated crustaceans by means of e.s.r. is complicated. On one hand in numerous samples manganese ions are observed, which give rise to a broad six line pattern. The center lines of the manganese spectrum are in the field range of the radiation specific signals and disturbe the identification of irradiated samples. On the other hand different radicals can be produced by ionizing radiation in the shells of crustanceans. It should be pointed out, that obviously not only the species itself plays an important role for the structure of the e.s.r. spectra of irradiated samples, but as is shown for Norway lobsters the origin and probably other factors like age or sex of the crustacean may be reasons for the differences. We have to carry out more and extensive studies regarding all these parameters for each species. (orig./VHE)
