Description
It is shown that the angular momentum tensor of the retarded Lienard-Wiechert field of a classical point charge may be covariantly split into two parts separately conserved off the world line of the particle. These parts are identified without ambiguity as the angular momentum radiated by the charge and the angular momentum that remains bound to it. The bound and emitted angular momenta are shown to have similar properties to the corresponding energy-momentum quantities. In particular, the bound angular momentum is found to be also a state function of the charge. The equation of angular momentum balance is shown to be consistent with the Lorentz-Dirac equation of motion, and the source of the ''intrinsic'' (origin-independent) angular momentum emitted by a nonspinning point charge is identified. Finally, separate sources on the world line for both parts are found
