Formation probabilities of Λ4H hyperfragment from stopped K- on light target nuclei

The formation probabilities of Λ4H from stopped K- on 7Li, 9Be, 12C, and 16O targets were measured to be (3.3 ± 0.4) x 10-2, (1.57 ± 0.18) x 10-2, (1.00 ± 0.14) x 10-2, and (0.47 ± 0.08) x 10-2 per stopped K-, respectively. The observed Λ4H formation cannot be accounted for only by the direct reaction on α cluster, 4He(K-, πo)Λ4H. The model of 'hyperon compound nucleus' seems to explain the observed formation probabilities. (author)
