Gravitational radiation in the 3-D processes such as fragmentation and collision of fluids

Description

Gravitational radiation from a non-axisymmetric collapse of a rotating fluid or a non-head-on collision between two fluids is calculated by using a three-dimensional, time-dependent, Newtonian hydrodynamical code. The fluid is treated in an isothermal or an adiabatic (Γ=5/3) approximation. Gravitational radiation is computed by using Landau-Lifshitz's formula as a small perturbation. In the case of a non-axisymmetric collapse leading to fragmentation of fluid, the efficiency ΔE/sub GR//Mc/sup 2/ is much larger than that in the case of an axisymmetric collapse and the enhancement factor is about 10 in general. In the case of a non-head-on collision, the efficiency is almost the same as that in the case of a head-on collision during compression phase
