The human side of systems
Creators
Description
This paper addresses human factors issues in the transportation of high level radioactive waste (HLRW). The DOE management system for HLRW is a complex socio-technical system with perhaps hundreds of thousands of opportunities for human error during handling, loading, and transport operations. Even extensive use of automation will not eliminate the potential for significant human error. The intent of this paper is to increase the reader's awareness of human factors and its application for the avoidance of human error
