Description

The purpose of this paper is to present the initiating events which must be considered in probabilistic safety assessments for CANDU reactors. The paper presents the definition, the selection methods, and the classification of initiating events, as follows: 1. loss of coolant from primary heat transport system; 2. transients; 3. loss of moderator and end shield cooling. The paper contains the preliminary list of initiating events considered in the CANDU probabilistic safety assessment. (Author)
