Position detector design using an electrostatic application of ANSYSTM

  • 1. Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory, 2550 Beckleymeade Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75237 (United States)

Description

The design of beam position monitor (BPM) stripline detectors has been enhanced by using the finite element code ANSYSTM. Available from Swanson Engineering, ANSYSTM was developed to solve Poisson's equation in stress and thermal analysis applications. The code is readily adaptable to solving electrostatic problems. The designs of several beam detectors were iterated by calculating electrode capacitances and characteristic impedances to better than 1% accuracy
