Safety rods calibration method by comparing with calibrated control rods

Description

We present the calibration method of the safety rods of RP-10 reactor based on a comparison with the reactivity integral curve of the control rods, which have been previously calibrated by the method of doubling time. The procedure is to bring the reactor to the state of criticality at low power (200 w) with three bars of 100% extra security, a control rod removed 0% and the other partially extracted control bar, then, who are encouraged to drop free from the safety bar to calibrate (SCRAM partial), recovers the state of criticality of the reactor with the control bar to 0% was extracted, finally leaving it in a certain position (X%). In the curve of reactivity of the control bar calibrated value X is read, it intercepts the curve and the value of the projection on the axis represents the equivalent reactivity of the safety bar to calibrate, going to the second control bar if it is necessary. The results are in a good approximation: 2% lower than those obtained by the method of doubling time. (orig.)
