Magnetic structure of the sun probed by solar neutrinos

  • 1. Tokyo Metropolitan Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Physics

Description

If the neutrino has a flavor-changing transition moment as large as (0.1-1)x10-10 Bohr magneton then the resonant neutrino spin rotation is one of the attractive solutions of the solar neutrino problem. We point out that if this is the case the solar neutrino can be used as a probe of the solar magnetic field not only in the convection zone but also in the deeper parts of the sun. Most significantly, even for the spin rotation in the convection zone its efficiency is rather sensitive to the presence of the radiation-zone magnetic field. (orig.)
