Hodoscopic photomultipliers with increased spatial resolution

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Serpukhov. Inst. Fiziki Vysokikh Ehnergij

Description

Design features and main characteristics of hodoscopic photomultiplier GFEhU-30P, providing spatial resolution at a single-electron level 0.5-0.6 mm, are considered. Increase of spatial resolution is obtained by increasing the radius of curvature of electric field equipotential lines in the region of electron drift in a photocathode box. It has been attained by using the photocathode box with a narrow gap. The highest spatial resolution is obtained when using a magnetic system, which minimum field gradient is 10 Oe/cm. The conclusion is made that the given multiplier should be used in scintillation hodoscopes and spectrometers of the Cherenkov radiation belts
