The polycrystalline and glassy alkaline frozen solution: photoconductometric and pulse-radiolytic results
Description
A progress is reported in the investigation of solid state radiation chemistry of polycrystalline frozen solutions, which has supplied data parallel to those for longer known glassy frozen solutions. The clear definition which system is polycrystalline and which glassy (by the density), differences in the collection in the electric field of electrons mobilized by light and last but not least, the similarity of esub(t)sup(-) absorption spectra, accessible now also in the case of the polycrystalline material, helped to get closer to the nature of irradiated polycrystalline hydroxide solutions, as compared to glassy ones. The research confirms the identity of properties of trapped electrons in glassy system with these trapped in frozen polycrystalline system, even if the cation in the second case differs so much from Na+ as the (CH3)4N+. The yields are different and so is the fate of esub(t)sup(-) in these systems, especially after the mobilization with light. (author)
