Nonconservation of spatial parity in πp scattering
Description
The P-odd dependence of the low-energy πp elastic scattering cross section on the proton helicity is calculated. It is shown that the weak interaction in this system occurs in the region of small distances approx. <0.7 F. If the chiral bag model is used to describe the πN interaction, the magnitude of the P-odd effect is determined by the weak interaction between the quarks in the bag. This P-odd effect is then much smaller in π+p scattering than in π-p scattering, and in the latter case its relative magnitude does not exceed approx. <1 x 10-7. The possibility of determining the structure of the πN bag state on the basis of the magnitude of the P-odd effect in πp scattering in the various isotopic states is discussed
