Determining the remaining wall thickness of low-level waste barrels

Description
Since the early 1940s, a large amount of low-level waste (LLW) has been generated. Most of this material consists of clothes and other cloth or paper material which has become radioactively contaminated. To reduce the spread of radioactive contamination in a cost-effective manner, much of the waste is placed in commonly available 55-gallon barrels. These barrels have been disposed of in a number of ways from storage in a controlled environment to being placed in a ditch and buried. This report describes methods for the determination of the wall thickness of the barrels
