Operator actions under severe accident conditions for Boiling Water Reactors: Chapter 3
- 1. General Electric Co., San Jose, CA
Description
During the last several years there has been an increasing emphasis on both the prevention and mitigation of severe accidents for light water reactors. This emphasis has resulted in evaluations of both the total plant systems and the role of the operator during accidents for both design basis and severe accidents. Previous studies have discussed the fundamental design principles incorporated into the design of Boiling Water Reactor (BWRs) plant systems that prevent the occurrence of severe core damage. This paper discusses the role of the operator in preventing and mitigating severe accidents and the implications of the EPGs to PRAs and BWRs
