Study of Photon Beam From 6MV Accelerator with Dynamic and Conventional Wedges

Description

The current trend in modern radiotherapy is towards 3 D-conformal therapy and stereotaxy. The dynamic wedge (DW) is an example of intensity-modulated therapy, which enables a simple method of obtaining dose conformation. The commissioning of DW, as a replacement for physical metal wedge (PW) filters is a very important step towards the acceptance of more ambitious intensity modulated treatment techniques. This study was undertaken firstly to measure and compare the dosimetric characteristics of dynamic and physical wedges such as dose profiles, percentage depth dose (PDD), surface dose, wedge factors, monitor unit (MU) calculation and dose verification. Secondly, the measured dose profiles for different field sizes were used to verify the data obtained by calculations using 3D-treatment-planning system (Cad Plan software version 3.13). Then the measured data for DW were used to plan a clinical case, maxilla. The result was compared with the plan generated for maxilla using physical wedges (PW)
