Investigation of the spin glass Y(FexAl1-x)2 with polarized neutrons

Full text: Spin glass order is observed for the C15 Laves phases Y(FexAl1-x)2 for x≤0.75. Detailed magnetic, Moessbauer and μ-SR investigations indicate inhomogeneous magnetization processes, dominated by correlations exhibiting strong dynamics above the freezing temperature Tg, which can be followed by high field Moessbauer spectroscopy up to temperatures of ∼ 10·Tg. To complete the knowledge about this system the magnetic short range order has been studied using polarized neutrons on the diffuse scattering spectrometer D7 at the ILL. We report on the Warren-Cowley short range order parameter and the magnetic spin correlation extracted from these measurements. (author)
