Clinical significance of determination of changes of plasma vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) contents after operation in children with cryptorchism
Description
Objective: To investigate the plasma contents of VEGF in paediatric patients with cryptorchism. Methods: Plasma VEGF contents were determined with ELISA in 30 pediatric patients with cryptorchism both before and after operation as well as in 35 controls. Results: Before operation, the plasma contents of VEGF in the patients were significantly higher than those in the controls (P<0.01). Three months after operation, the levels were not significantly different from those in controls (P >0.05). Conclusion: Plasma VEGF levels were high in children with cryptorchism and dropped after operation, the precise mechanism was not satisfactorily explained yet. (authors)
