Simulation of PHEBUS experiment with Scdap/Relap code

  • 1. Catedra de Tecnologia Nuclear. ETSI Industriales de la UPM. Madrid (Spain)

Description

Two accidents, The Three Ile Island in United States in 1979 and the Chernobyl in Ukraine in 1986, have highlighted the necessity to better understand the physical processes that involve in a Nuclear Power Plant severe accident. The Phebus FP project is one of the most important research programs in the world on the safety of Light Water Reactors. It studies the behaviour of the fission products released from he core to the Reactor Cooling System and the phenomena involved in the core melt progression. The Scdap/Relap5 code has been developed for best estimate transient simulation of light water reactor coolant systems during a severe accident. A generic modelling approach is used that permits as much of a particular system to be modelled as necessary. This code has simulated the most important physical processes that involve in a Nuclear Power Plant. (Author) 3 refs
