Gravitational radiation from freely-falling bodies

Description
It is stated that the problem of determining the gravitational radiation from freely falling bodies is almost as old as general relativity. Various investigators have deduced an energy loss, an energy gain, or no radiation at all. Many now believe that the Einstein quadrupole formula correctly describes the rate of energy loss. The present author, however, initiated a new approach to the problem, and in his two-body model the free fall energy loss rate exceeds that which would be anticipated by the quadrupole formula. This model is described, together with its mode of operation. It is found that the radiated energy is dependent on the structure of the sources. (U.K.)
