The UK regulation of the transport of radioactive materials: quality assurance and compliance assurance

Description

This report represents the findings and conclusions of a study of the regulation of the transport of radioactive materials in the United Kingdom, with particular reference to the application of Quality Assurance and Compliance Assurance measures. It was found that the UK safety record for radioactive material transport over the last 20 years or so was very good and that the approach adopted in the UK provided an efficient and effective basis for the regulation of traffic in this area. However, some 40 conclusions and recommendations on matters of detail are contained within the report. In addition, the report tries to set out as clearly as possible the full regulatory framework in an area which is highly complex involving a very large number of regulatory bodies and interested parties.
