Gas cooled reactor fuel
Description
Purpose: To suppress the fuel temperature by effectively removing the heat generated in the fuel compact using a gas cooling device. Constitution: The inner and outer surfaces of the hollow cylindrical compacts are molded in such a way that they are coated with graphite. In addition to the above, a fin is also provided on the outer side of the mold to form a route for the gas cooling device and thus increase the heat transfer area. In a fuel assembly of this type, the heat given off by the fuel compact is transferred effectively to the graphite which is in close contact with it and is transferred effectively to the cooling device by the fin. This enables to reduce the temperature of the fuel and to decrease the power density. (Kamimura, M.)
