Sunspot pair formation by the photospheric dynamo process

  • 1. Alaska Univ., Fairbanks (USA). Geophysical Inst.

Description

It is suggested that the formation of a pair of sunspots results from amplification of the weak, large-scale fields in the photosphere, rather than from emergence of a hypothetical magnetic flux ''tube'' from beneath the photosphere. (author)
