Plutonium and MA Management in WWER-440 and FR

Description

Comparison of WWER-440 cycle with improved microheterogeneous inert matrix fuel assemblies and fast reactor cycle was performed. Improved WWER-440 fuel assembly contained standard uranium and transmutation pins with Pu and MA in ZrO2. The well known French FR Super Phenix was chosen as a representative of fast reactors. Comparing PWR with IMF and FR - transmutation rate of Pu is comparable in both reactors, but MA are transmuted several times faster in FR (Authors)
