Condensation-melting heat transfer of steam and air mixture onto a vertical ice plate

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan). Research Lab. of Nuclear Reactor

Description

Experiments have been made on the condensation of steam/air mixture along a vertical ice plate at pressure from 0.05 to 5 ata and corresponding air molar fraction from 10-4 to 9 x 10-1. Such condensation-melting heat transfer is utilized for flash desalination and PWR emergency cooling. The following results were obtained: (1) The ratio of condensation weight flow in steam/air mixture and in steam in both transient and quasi-steady states is given. (2) When air is contained in steam even though slight quantity, the air mixing ratio in the gas-liquid interface becomes very high, and the temperature there drops considerably. The thermal resistance on gas side is generally higher. (J.P.N.)
