Uranyl ion selective electrode based on a new synthetic neutral carrier

Description
Uranyl-selective electrodes on the basis of synthetic neutral carriers structurally related to previously published highly successful Li+-, Na+-, Ca2+-, and Ba2+- ionophores are described. Their rejection of Li+, Na+, K+, NH4+, Tl+, and Pb2+ is larger than a factor of 1000, and of Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ larger than a factor of 10,000. UO22+ is detected as a monovalent permeating species of the type UO2X+, where X- is most probably OH-. Background levels of approx. 0.1 M Cl-, NO3-, or ClO4- in no way limit the response function
