Effects of acute gamma-irradiation on reproduction of the collembolan (Folsomia candida) in a standard laboratory test
- 1. National Inst. of Radiological Sciences, Research Center for Radiation Protection, Environmental Radiation Effects Research Group, Chiba, Chiba (Japan)
Description
The abstract of this study was to provide data for radiological protection of the environment, the dose-effect relationship of acute gamma irradiation on the reproduction of the soil invertebrate Folsomia candida (Collembola) was studied according to a standard laboratory test. Juvenile collembolans were exposed to 137Cs gamma-radiation at a dose range of 4-110 Gy. After four weeks' rearing, the number of neonate juveniles was compared with that of the non-irradiated control. The value of the 10% effective dose for reproduction was estimated to be 7.1 Gy.
