Study of the binding of selenites to goethite

  • 1. Univerzita Komenskeho v Bratislave, Prirodovedecka fakulta, Ustav laboratorneho vyskumu geomaterialov, Bratislava (Slovakia)

Description

The study of the sorption patterns of hazardous substances to natural materials, including goethite, is essential to assess the mobility of hazardous substances in the natural environment. Such potential hazardous substances include selenium, which is the subject of this work. The measurements show that the optimal pH of the environment for the sorption of Se (IV) is in the range of 2.0 to 5.5. In the second part the authors dealt with the sorption kinetics, which can be described by the pseudo-second order sorption mechanism. This sorption proceeds relatively quickly and within 5 minutes the majority of the goethite sorption capacity is occupied, the equilibrium occurs after 20 min.
